On Tuesday, Zimbabwe's ruling party said that it would never give in to military pressure and accused the leader of the armed forces of treasonable conduct after armored vehicles were spotted headed towards the capital of Harare. The city remained calm but has been on edge since Monday when the Commander of Zimbabwe's Defence Force, Constantino Chiwenga, said that he was prepared to "step in" to end a purge of supporters for the country's sacked vice president. Zimbabwe's ruling party said that it stood by the "primacy of politics over the gun" and accused Chiwenga of disturbing the country's peace and stability.
